Basic Needs-Ghana, a renowned mental health and development advocacy organizations has initiated a COVID-19 response programme which involves donation of PPEs and awareness creation on COVID-19.
This became necessary following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Governments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and businesses continue to make frantic efforts towards curbing the spread of the pandemic on the continent.
It is in the light of this that Basic Needs-Ghana, with the support of donors including Dignity Danish Institute Against Torture, embarked on this campaign.
The exercise saw officers of the organization presenting Veronica Buckets, Tissue Papers, Water Basins, Handwashing soap, Hand Sanitizers and Dustbins to Self-Help Groups of Persons with Mental Illness and Epilepsy.
Traditional Healers who have not been lucky enough to be covered by government COVID-Response have also been given the items.
These items are meant to enable them practice personal hygiene and stay safe from COVID-19 in their homes and at meetings.
Handing over the items to beneficiaries in the various districts, Hannan Tizaa Legend,a project officer of BasicNeeds-Ghana, admonished beneficiaries to stay safe in the wake of the pandemic.
“COVID-19 is real and near to us than we think. It is better to stay safe from a beast than to struggle for freedom from it. Prevention is better than cure,” he advised beneficiaries.
Recipients were educated about COVID-19 protocols and how to effectively use the PPEs.
These distributions are happening alongside on-air and onsight awareness creation on measures to manage the pandemic.
The Response, which is ongoing across the country, is expected to last for as long as the pandemic persists.
Receiving the items on behalf of Gub-katimala Self-Help Group at Zabzugu, Madam Kubura Tuferu expressed her profound gratitude to BasicNeeds-Ghana and its donors for their gesture.
“Our only prevention [in the wake of Coronavirus] has been prayer and now these items have come in handy. Your leader, Mr. Peter Yaro, is very thoughtful and proactive. May he live long to do more for humanity,” she said.
Tingbaki Taaturi, a traditional healer at Mogneigu said the donation is a rescue mission for him and his clients because health officials have been encouraging them to take measures aimed at preventing the spread of the disease in their facilities.
