Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye is hopeful the completion of the age-old Teshie Lascala link road will be one of the major infrastructural developments in the area.
He says the road project will soon be completed to bring relief to all road users.
In an interview with Citi News on the progress made on the project, the MP indicated that the level of work done was at 80 percent.
He added that the rest of the project will be completed before the December 2020 general elections.
Dr. Okoe Boye said when road markings and streetlights are fixed on the stretch, it will make the constituency look like “California”.
“In fact, I said the last time that if you have been away for a very long time and you are not careful you will get lost because this is the new California coming up”.
“As I speak, the road is about 80% complete. As I drove by it, the contractors were now doing the pavements and walkways. It’s advanced very well and constituents are happy. We only pray for life, the markings and streetlights and everything will be completed [before the December polls]”. Dr. Okoe Boye added.
Over the years, poor conditions and delayed construction of the Teshie Link road have been upsetting the residents.
The Teshie-Lascala link road connects Spintex Road to the Tema-Accra Beach Road.
It used to largely be a feeder road and was the source of high volumes of dust when there is vehicular traffic.
But in recent times, it’s current state shows that parts of the road have seen a facelift.
The government earlier paid half of the $35 million owed to Malin Investment, the firm which was contracted to work on the road in 2016 but abandoned it after no significant construction work.
The company stopped the project because four of the five certificates they sent to the government for payment, totalling GHc25 million had not been honoured.
Although the Ministry of Roads and Highways had initially indicated that the construction works would be completed by December 2018, the MP has now assured that the road will be finished before the end of the year.
