Security Analyst, Col. Festus Aboagye (Rtd) has urged the police to stand their ground and arrest persons behind a recent clash in the Odododiodoo constituency.
No arrest has been made in relation to the clash despite comments from both the Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency on the incident.
Col. Aboague on the Citi Breakfast Show warned against the use of political influence to spare perpetrators of political violence.
He charged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and arrest the culprits involved.
“The police is saying they want tensions to die down before they make an arrest. How many hours since the event, no arrest has been made. Rather, political actors are speaking on media platforms and making press statements without addressing the root cause. We need to be very concerned.”
“The police must act professionally. They must do the necessary investigation and effect the arrest and not listen to interference or influences from outside,” he said.
The clash
Supporters of the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress on Sunday, October 25, 2020, clashed at Jamestown.
15 persons were wounded following the attack in one of the Greater Accra Region’s known hotspots.
The incident occurred while some NDC members were embarking on a campaign walk on Sunday morning.
The NDC and NPP supporters pelted stones bottles and other projectiles at each other.
