Former President, John Dramani Mahama barred a chief from making a speech in Sefwi Kwambibkrom of the Western North Region during his campaign tour in the area.
As part of John Mahama’s four-day visit to the Western North, he was scheduled to deliver a speech to the people of Sefwi Kwambikrom at exactly 3:10 pm.
As such, the constituency executive organised a durbar and invited all sub-chiefs of Kwambikrom, including the Odikro of the area, Nana Kwambi III.
Typical of such functions, the traditional ruler of the area usually makes statements and puts the challenges or problems facing his people to the dignitaries present for assistance.
But on this occasion, immediately the MC invited the chief to speak, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress quickly shut the chief down and prevented him from speaking.
Mahama’s attitude towards the chief did not go down well with the inhabitants of Sefwi Kwambikrom.
The chief who was visibly stunned started shaking his head in the full glare of the public when John Mahama prevented him from addressing the gathering.
The people who were already angry following the five-hour delay of the program could not fathom why their chief was not allowed to speak after waiting for them for five (5)hours.
A member of the Unit Committee for the town, (name withheld) expressed his disappointment with the development.
He stated that the long-held view of the people that the NDC does not respect nor regard their Chief was evident during the program.
The program which was scheduled to start at 3:10 pm started at 8:00 pm.
