The Ghetto Love Project Agenda is a flagship initiative of the Hopeland Life Foundation through which the Foundation seeks to reach out and offer help and support to persons who are victims of drug addiction, prostitution and other social vices.
The 2020 edition which was the maiden edition of the project was held at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Ghetto in the center of Accra which serves as the home for more than 1,000 inhabitants most of whom are victims of drug addiction and prostitution.
Hopeland Life Foundation is a registered NGO established in the year 2019 which seeks to give hope and help to the hopeless and maximize their potential in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Foundation has 4 main areas of focus; education, health, helps and leadership. In December, 2019, the Foundation embarked on a love outreach to Communities in the Northern part of Ghana during the Christmas season to share with them the love of God and donated several items to them.
The Ghetto Love Project 2020 was held on the 31st of October, 2020. A total number of 22 young people comprising members of the Foundation and other individual volunteers participated in the project. Among the members of the team were also professionals in the health sector, and journalism.
In all, about 120 inhabitants of the Ghetto took part in the one day program which lasted for about 4 hours.
As part of the program, the team took the opportunity to collate data for future support actions through questionnaires. The team also engaged the inhabitants of the area in an educational interaction on drug addiction and prostitution and their adverse effects on the individuals’ life, society and the nation as a whole. From the questionnaires a good number of the people interviewed expressed the willingness to be part of a rehabilitation program intended to help them come out from their situations. The Foundation has therefore put in place a program to facilitate periodic engagements with the victims with the support of health professionals and other stakeholders to embark on a rehabilitation program.
Again, donations ranging from basic items such food, water, clothing, soaps, mosquito nets and many others were presented by the foundation to the inhabitants of the area.
The Foundation is grateful to the BelAqua Foundation, Dr. Bismark Atta Adjepong, the National Director of the Pharmacy Council, Mrs Priscilla Mensah, Senior Public Health Nurse of the Ghana health service, Mr. Rex Baffoe, CEO of Ferfed Group of Companies and all other individuals who supported the project immensely in kind and in cash.
The Foundation would also like to use this opportunity to seek sponsorship from organizations and individuals to enable it embark on the planned rehabilitation program and other help programs for these victims of social vices.
