Former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma South constituency, Fritz Baffour has expressed his condolences to the family of late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The former President passed on in the early hours of Thursday, November 12, 2020.
This was confirmed to Citi News by sources close to the family of the former President.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Baffour said he is disturbed by the sad news especially considering how long he has known him.
“I am disturbed by the very recent news of his passing because he has been a very important part of my life. I have known him for a long time and to find out now is very sad.”
He added that the last time they [Fritz Baffour and Rawlings] spoke was a few days before the burial of Rawlings’ mother.
Jerry John Rawlings passed away a few days after the burial of his mother, Victoria Agbotui.
Tributes have also poured in from various political figures for the late Jerry John Rawlings.
The Coordinator for Volta diaspora caucus Dziffa Aku Attivor offered her condolence to the family of the late Jerry John Rawlings.
She also shared her memories of the former president with Citi News.
“Everybody knows what papa J stood for, He’s very very straightforward, he doesnt mince words he is very very aticulate he says things as it is, his yes is yes and his no is no, and we all cherish him because of that. Some may think is bad but we knew that those attributes compelled him to where he was untill this untimely death.”
“Most of us are in NDC because of Papa J, He brought us along into the NDC that is why we wordship and cherish him. He was there for us in different ways. Recently he lost his mum and as a caucus we were there to mourn and sympathize with him,” she added.
