The Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Mobila has donated some first aid kits to the Prisons Service for the inmates in the Northern Region.

At a short presentation ceremony at the Yendi prisons, Ibrahim Mobila says the prison could be the home of anybody and the health of the inmates is very important.

“Anybody can become a prisoner. I think that there are some difficulties with the inmates. I think medication is the most important commodity which is why I have come to donate a few medications for them to be taken care of.”

The officer in charge of the Yendi prison, Chief Officer Fusheini Suleman expressed gratitude on behalf of the service to the chairman for the gesture saying it would go a long way to help as they currently do not have a single medicine.

“The medication brought would help us a lot. Currently, we don’t have a single medicine, and we want to express our sincere gratitude to the chairman for the donation.”

He used the opportunity to appeal to organisations and individuals to assist them to replace the toilet facility in the yard.

He said they still use pit and pan latrine.

He, therefore, appealed to philanthropists to come to their aid.

He said they also need a security post at the Yendi prison.

“We are faced with lots of challenges here. We are still using the pan and the pit latrine and it is our hope that philanthropists would come and assist us to change it to water closets. Formerly, our yard was not cemented but now someone has come and floored it for us. So it is our appeal that another person would come and assist us to change our pit and pan latrine to a modern one. We want to build a security post and are also appealing for assistance.”

With the security post, the Regional chairman asked them to give the estimate and type to the constituency chairman of the NDC for immediate construction.

“I would want to assure them that they should go to my constituency chairman and give them the size they want and the estimate. If they bring it today, by tomorrow we would start. This is because security is the most important thing and must not be toyed with,” he said.
