The Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) have eulogised ex-president Jerry John Rawlings.
The political parties issued statements to express their condolences to the family of Mr. Rawlings
PPP in its statement signed by its National Secretary, Paa Kow Ackon said the late president was a statesman who deepened the nation’s democracy.
“He served his country as a statesman, represents the epitome of stewardship and accountability, deepened our democracy and media pluralism. Indeed, Ghana has lost a great asset.”
Meanwhile, the PNC in its statement also signed by its General Secretary, Janet A. Nabla described the late president as a nationalist.
“We fondly remember Mr. Rawlings as a legendary revolutionary leader, a nationalist, disciplinarian, pragmatist, and a defender of social justice who devoted his entire life to the development and empowerment of Ghanaians,” PNC said in its statement.
About Rawlings’ death
Former President, Jerry John Rawlings passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020.
He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment for ill-health.
Several tributes have poured in for the last ex-president.
