The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, says arrangements have been made to redeploy some officers whose names were omitted from the special voting list.
This comes on the back of reports of missing names of some police personnel during Tuesday’s voting exercise.
The redeployment, according to the IGP is to offer affected officers an opportunity to exercise their franchise on Election Day.
“All those people will not be disenfranchised. All officers who were not on the special voting list will be given the opportunity to vote. The plan is to reassign an officer based on their polling centres. This will enable them to vote and carry out their duties,” he said in an interview on Peace FM.
“We have spoken to the Electoral Commission to allow for all such officers to vote first before they begin their duties,” the IGP assured.
The concerns from the special voting day prompted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to urge the EC to take immediate steps to address challenges regarding the voters register before the December 7 election.
“It is important to identify the few challenges that have riddled this exercise and make sure you put measures in place to resolve it because most of the challenges that confronted the system if it should happen on election day, that will be a bit problematic,” a Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor, said to Citi News.
The special voting exercise was for 109,557 persons.
These included members of the security services, journalists and staff of the EC.
The Early voters included personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau, National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department, among others.
Over 17 million are registered to vote on the election day on December 7.
