The Electoral Commission (EC) has dispelled claims that some thumb-printed ballot papers have been discovered in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Commission, it has noted a video circulating on social media alleging that show ballots that have been thumb printed in favour of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo.
The EC indicated that its ballot papers have unique security features, which the said ballot papers did not contain.
“The Commission’s ballot papers have several security features, key among them being unique serial numbers. Further, all the Commission’s allow serial numbers beginning with the number zero (0). However. the purported ‘ballots’ in the video begin with the number one (1) and not zero (0).”
“We, therefore, wish to categorically state that the ‘ballots’ shown in the video are fake and are in no way, shape, or form the original ballots of the Electoral Commission. We entreat the General Public to disregard this fake video deliberately calculated to tarnish the integrity and credibility of the Polls”
The Election Management Body noted that “the 2020 General Election which was observed by various local and international organisations has been globally hailed as free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful.”
