The Minority leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has described the Electoral Commission’s (EC) inability to provide the certified copy of the Techiman South constituency results as shameful.
According to the Member of Parliament elect for Tamale South, despite the EC’s announcement of the New Patriotic Party’s candidate as the winner of the Techiman South parliamentary seat, they are yet to see the certified results or declaration sheets.
“Let anybody from any media house share with me their evidence of a copy of certified collated results for Techiman South Parliamentary Sheet. This is shameful to the EC of Ghana.
“You conduct elections and two weeks into it, neither the candidate nor his representatives or the NDC as an interested party can boast of an official copy of the outcome of that election.”
Addressing the media during the NDC’s caucus public collation of Techiman South Results, Mr. Iddrisu stated that they would treat the EC with the contempt following their inability to present a petition.
“We note that she refused to see or acknowledge us and contemptuously refused to receive a lawful and harmless petition that we seeking to provide. That also sets a good precedent for us that electoral representatives of the people can be ignored as she did us.”
“You know me, I am the MP-elect for Tamale South and I will serve on that special budget committee of the EC. We will also ignore and disrespect her. We will reward and reciprocate her with the same contemptuous posture going into the Eighth parliament but still demand accountability from her,” he added
NDC MPs clash with police; blocked from petitioning EC
NDC legislators have also threatened to boycott all activities of the EC after they were blocked by armed police officers from petitioning the Commission.
The NDC MPs were led by Mr. Iddrisu and the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak who walked towards the EC but were stopped by the police who insisted they will not allow them to proceed beyond a barricaded area.
Some of the legislators were also manhandled amidst the march.
