The first batch of Master of Technology students numbering 13 has graduated from the Takoradi Technical University.

The pioneering M-Tech graduates who are part of 3,155 graduates for 2019/2020 academic year included Master of Technology in Printing, Master of Technology in Textiles Design and Masters of Technology in Graphic Design.

Professor Eshun, however, highlighted successes achieved with providing higher technical education for persons with disabilities in partnership with GNPC.

“As a pioneer in the technical university education and training for persons with a disability, the University continues to provide an academic setting where Students with Disability are suitably supported and encouraged and are independent of any form of rejection, discrimination, or harassment, so that they may accomplish their full potential and make career choices for themselves.

Currently, there are seventy-four (74) students with disability at the University, fourteen of whom are graduating today, including seven hearing-impaired students.

This year, some eighteen (18) students with disability have already been given admission into different programmes of study, and I know there would be more.

The University believes that disability is an integral aspect of a diversified society, hence the need to encourage self-determination to ensure equal opportunities for our persons with disabilities.

The University shall strive to ensure that no student is deprived of his/her inclusion and participation in any aspect of University life as a result of a disability,“ he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted some key partnerships TTU has entered into with Petroleum Commission and ConstructPRO to enhance learning and infrastructure.

“Another important academic issue during the period under review was the decision by the Petroleum Commission to establish an Ultra-modern Pipefitting Centre at TTU for the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Building Programme.

It is envisaged that when this facility is completed, TTU will be the Centre of Excellence in Plumbing, Welding and Fabrication training for the oil and other industries.

The University has also entered into two, Public-Private Partnership projects on Build Own, Operate and Transfer bases with ConstructPro Innovations (CPI) Company to put up hostel to accommodate three thousand five hundred (3500) students.

HANISA company also is supposed to put up a 2000 capacity students’ hostel at our new Akatakyi Campus. These projects are expected to meet the deficit in student accommodation of the University. Efforts are underway for work to start on the Akatakyi Campus road.“ he added.

The Council Chairperson of TTU, Dr. Henrientta Abane, said education remains the most effective tool to bridge the inequality gap in society hence the council has in it turner ensured TTU offers just that.

“Takoradi Technical University has the vision to build and equip our students with the skills and capabilities to thrive in a modern economy and also have the consciousness to contribute to a better society. I wish to assure the government that the university has started off with a strong foundation and we plan to sustain and transform TTU into an outstanding university that contributes to the development of our country and global community,“ she said.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko who also graced the occasion said government is committed to its TVET programme to offer free TVET programme to nurture more technical hands for the technical manpower needed for the country’s development. He urged graduates to consider entrepreneurship if they want to succeed.

“Only 4 percent of Ghanaian voters are on government payroll hence you graduates must be ready to be entrepreneurs and not employees to be successful,” he said.
