President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, has promised to do everything possible to make Ghana a prosperous country.

He made the statement during his victory speech after being declared the winner of the 2020 polls.

“There could be that tendency for an incumbent president who has just secured an second term in office, to as it where, take it easy and relax becuase there is nothing more to lose or prove. I am of a different character.

“Just as I have been doing since January 2017, I give you my word that I will continue to work very hard to build a prosperous and progressive Ghana for which we yearn. The decisive margin of victory in this election constitutes for me an endorsement of the policies and programmes initiated by my government and put before the electorate…and I am determined to do all in my power to accomplish the task of this new mandate and thereby justify the confidence reposed in me.”

“I assure you fellow Ghanaians that I would do my best not to let you down,” President Akufo-Addo added.

In his speech, the President-elect also advised his supporters to celebrate in a peaceful manner.

“NPP supporters should understandably celebrate and jubilate but desist from on untoward acts. At the end of the day, despite all the different political views, we should all remember that we all part of one family, one Ghanaian family, with a common overriding agenda, which is to oversee the growth of development of mother Ghana.”

“Let us continue to conduct ourselves with decorum and maintain the peace and the stability of the nation which is the envy of many around the world,” he added

Akufo-Addo also commended the media for their extensive coverage of the electoral process.

“The praise of the nation goes to the media in the extensive coverage provided before, during, and after the conduct of the polls.”

Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, led the New Patriotic Party into the December 7 polls.

He obtained 6,730,413 votes, representing 51.59% while the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama placed second, garnering 6,214,889 which represents 47.36% of the total ballots cast.

This was announced by the Returning Officer of the 2020 presidential election, Jean Mensa, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
