The Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak says his caucus will not grant the Electoral Commission audience in the 8th Parliament following her recent conduct and disrespect for them.
According to the Asawase legislator, the decision is borne out of the EC’s refusal to receive a petition from the Minority to collate the results of the parliamentary polls in the Techiman South Constituency.
Police officers and the NDC MPs clashed on Tuesday morning when the caucus led by Haruna Iddrisu and Alhaji Mubarak marched to the EC to submit their petition.
Some of the MPs were physically confronted by the armed police.
No official of the EC received the NDC’s petition, forcing the caucus members to return to the Parliament House.
The EC subsequently in a statement said no official receive the petition because they were not given prior notice.
The MP for Asawase constituency, Muntaka Mubarak told Citi News the EC’s conduct was disrespectful to them as leaders they will not change their decision on the Commission.
He said Jean Mensa has “bitten more than she can chew… Now the game is to disrespect each other and since disrespect has become the order of the day, we will wait for her in Parliament. I can bet you; it will be very interesting in the 8th Parliament. She will never be heard by us. We will never allow her into committee meetings.”
“They can bring the whole military into the committee meetings because that is our precincts. I can assure you that she has bitten more than she can chew.”
