The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be forced to go to court to seek a redress of its disagreements with the 2020 election results.
Mr. Ras Mubarak insists going to court is not the only legal option available to the party.
According to him, the party will go to court only when it feels it is time to do so.
“Going to the court isn’t the only legal avenue available to the National Democratic Congress. The NDC will not be stampeded into deciding on when to go to court over the issue. If Ghanaians would recall, in 2012, the NPP went to court on December 28.”
“We (NDC) have seen a grievous violation of the rights of voters, we have seen the use of brute force in this election like never before in the history of this country and serious levels of incompetence exhibited by the commissioner herself that has brought the name of the commission into disrepute to the extent that the EC has become the racket of public jokes”
He made these comments on Citi TV‘s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
NDC’s disagreements with 2020 results
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7 polls on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, despite concerns raised by the opposition NDC.
Mr. Mahama subsequently declared the party’s unwillingness to accept the outcome of the general elections.
Describing the outcome as the “real stolen verdict,” Mr. Mahama at a press conference on Thursday, December 10, 2020, said the party will audit the outcomes of the poll to inform its next step.
