The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Hassan Tampuli has annexed the Gushegu parliamentary seat in the Northern Region for the New Patriotic Party.
Mr. Tampuli polled a total vote of 30,401 against 28,055 votes by Mohammed Yussif Malimali of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Out of the 58,706 total valid vote cast, 1,789 votes were rejected.
Hassan Tampuli will be taking over from the NDC’s Kwesi Thomas Nassan who occupied the seat in 2016.
Who is Alhassan Tampuli Suleman?
Tampuli was born in 1977 in Gushegu in the Northern Region of Ghana.
He graduated from the University of Ghana with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Upon graduation, he was employed as an administrator at the National Service Scheme. He rose to become the Deputy Head of Human Resource and later acted as the Director of Postings.
Tampuli took leave from the service to pursue a law degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana.
After his two years of faculty education, he was admitted to the Ghana School of Law.
He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2011. He traveled to the United States to further his legal education in 2013. Tampuli graduated from the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University with a Master of Laws degree in energy and environmental law.
Tampuli is a member of the New Patriotic Party and has served at various levels of the party’s structure.
Prior to the 2016 Ghanaian general election, he was a member of the party’s manifesto Subcommittee on Energy, and the Transition Subcommittee on Energy.
In January 2017, he was appointed as the acting and later substantive head of the National Petroleum Authority.
He succeeded Moses Asaga who had served as the head of the authority since 2013.
