Sunyani: Two NGOs donate sports items to UENR

Forsports Foundation and The Godfred Donsah Foundation, both Non-Governmental Organisations based in Sunyani with a focus on using sports for social development and community cohesion have donated assorted sports equipment to the Sports Department of the University of Energy and Natural Resources ( UENR).

The items donated include a set of jerseys, footballs, Shinguards, tracksuit tops, goalkeepers’ gloves among others.

The Foundations through some of its sponsors Macron SPA-Italy and Umbro United Kingdom donated the items as part of their outreach programs to support the University and also recruit volunteers for the organizations’ work in Sunyani and its environments.

The Executive Director of The Godfred Donsah Foundation, Miss Hannah Kyeremaa Donsah expressed the willingness of the Godfred Donsah Foundation to partner with the University to enhance the image of the institution.

The Godfred Donsah Foundation, is an initiative of Ghanaian international, Godfred Donsah who plays for Italian Serie ‘A’ Club Bologna F.C and currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig club Caykur Rizespor.

Miss Donsah in her speech noted that the Foundation would support the University to construct an Early Childhood Development Center(CRECHE) as its contribution to supporting the early education of the children of the staff of the university as well as kids within Sunyani and its environs.

She also took the opportunity to thank the management of Forsports Foundation for collaborating with them in their quest to support the University.

Receiving the items on behalf of the University were, Mr. Ebenezer Armoh, the Deputy Director, Sports Directorate, Ms. Kate Afram, Senior Administrative Assistant, Sports Directorate, and Mr. Simon Bosomtwe, Coach, Sports Directorate.

The Deputy Director of Sports, Mr. Ebenezer Armoh on behalf of the University thanked the donors for their kind gesture and proposed the formation of a football club with local support as the University abounds with budding talents that can become professional footballers if given the opportunity aside their academic work.

“On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of University, Professor Elvis Asare Bediako, I would like to thank the donors for this kind gesture.”

Mr. Desmond Gyasi of The Godfred Donsah Foundation reiterated that as part of the soon to be organized “Donsah League” which will involve clubs across the entire Sunyani Municipality it would help to unearth football talents for professional development.

Present during the presentation was Mr. Alfred Tuah Yeboah Esq, a Trustee of For sports Foundation, Mr. Christopher Forsythe, Founder of Forsports Foundation, and Mr. Desmond Gyasi, Member of the Management Team of The Godfred Donsah Foundation.
