Two police officers arrested for attempting to sell weapons at Alajo

Two police officers have been arrested after they attempted to sell weapons to undercover officers from the Accra regional command.

The two are Lance Corporal Emmanuel Yao Abusah and Lance Corporal Sulemana Yussif, both of the National Patrol Department and stationed at the visibility headquarters in Accra.

According to a police report, on Thursday December 17, 2020, police acted upon intelligence that someone was offering fire arms and ammunition for sale at Achimota.

Police said they followed up the information and met Emmanuel Abusah Yao Abusah aged 38, and Dokpor (driver) aged 31, onboard an unidentified taxi cab.

After their interaction, the suspects claimed they had more weapons for sale and scheduled 18/12/20 for the transaction.

“The Police surveillance team met the suspects on the said date at Alajo and arrested all four of them.
On the spot search conducted in the bag of suspect Abdul Samed Yussif aka. Matata revealed one unregistered Pistol and the following; 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 59 rounds of M16 ammunition, 38 rounds of AK 47 assault rifle ammunition and 58 rounds of G3 ammunition,” the report said.

The weapon and the ammunition are currently in police custody.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has ordered interdiction of the two officers.

A notice from the police said; “two officers, namely No.48991 Lance Corporal Emmanuel Yao Abusah and No. 52698 Lance Corporal Sulemana Yussif, both of the National Patrol Department have been interdicted for their alleged possession of firearms and ammunitions without lawful authority and attempted sale of same on 18th December, 2020. This action is in accordance with the Police Service Regulations, 2012 (C.I. 76).”
