The Accra Circuit Court 4 has once again adjourned the case in which a national security operative allegedly shot a journalist and injured others at the Ablekuma Central collation centre during the just-ended general elections.
The case has been adjourned to January 11, 2021.
Collins Quarcoo, the suspect, also known as Kola, was arraigned for allegedly shooting Pius Asiedu Kwanin, a journalist with the Newswatch Ghana online portal, in the leg, and causing injury to some other persons at the Ablekuma Central collation centre on December 8, 2020.
The suspect, Collins Quarcoo, also known as Kola pleaded not guilty to all six counts of causing unlawful harm when he first appeared in court on December 17, 2020.
He was subsequently denied bail.
Since the suspect’s first appearance in court, the case has so far been adjourned six times, largely owing to the inability of the presiding judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, to show up in court due to ill health.
Although there were no proceedings in court today, January 5, the Registrar adjourned the case again to Monday, January 11, 2021.
Meanwhile, the suspect is still in police custody.
One of the wounded persons from the shooting incident has died.
As far as violence during the 2020 polls was concerned, six lives were lost.
There were 61 recorded cases of electoral and post-electoral violence across the country.
Twenty-one of the incidents were true cases of electoral violence, six of which involved gunshots.
