The President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has congratulated Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on his election as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
“I must at the outset express my warm congratulations to my good friend and colleague of many years in this House, Rt. Honourable Alban Sumana Bagbin on his assumption of office as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.”
Delivering his speech after being sworn into office at his inauguration ceremony, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that the work of Mr. Bagbin has led him to this position.
“Nearly three decades of devoted service to Parliament by you has culminated at this moment which has seen your elevation to the third great office of state to our nation.”
Nana Akufo-Addo further stated that “this is the first time that the President from one republic will be obliged by the exigencies of the moment and the will of the people to work in all sincerity and cooperation with the Speaker of Parliament from another party.”
He stated that “I am confident that both of us will be guided in our relationship by the supreme interest of our people in ensuring good governance in the ordering of affairs of state .”
He also assured the Speaker of his willingness to work with him to continue to promote peace in the country.
“I want to ensure you of my wholehearted determination to work with you to advance the peace, progress and prosperity of the Ghanaian people”
The former President John Dramani Mahama has also congratulated the newly-elected Speaker.
“Congratulations Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on your election as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.”
