Some residents in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region are unhappy with members of the Asamankese Youth for Development (AYD) for making some allegations they claimed are baseless against the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Seth Oduro Boadu.
The youth group among other things accused the MCE of being arrogant, failing to develop the municipality and lack of respect for traditional authority.
They thus urged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to re-appoint him in his second term.
But some of the youth have rubbished the claims.
Mr. Anyass Abdullah, a long-serving member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an appointee of the Municipal Assembly from the Zongo community in refuting claims by the AYD insisted that Mr. Oduro Boadu is the best ever MCE the NPP can boast off following his socioeconomic, political intervention and developmental projects initiated in the community.
He explained that the MCE’s enviable track record and selfless involvement in championing President Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s agenda have boosted the love of the party in the constituency.
“Before God and man, l was surprised when l heard such baseless claims against the MCE because l was born and raised here, and I have been a long-serving member of the NPP for the past 21 years. I joined the NPP in 1999, and I know every leader who has worked and served this party. But trust me, this is the best MCE the NPP has had in this municipality. He is down to earth and has aided in projecting the good image of the NPP. He personally took the campaign upon himself and marshalled all resources to cushion our parliamentary candidate to retain the seat for our party.”
“With such a hard-working person, why should any pressure group ever call on the president not to reappoint Seth Oduro Boadu? He must definitely continue the good works he has embarked on from health, education, agriculture to mention but few,” Mr. Abdullah said.
Some youth of the party also described the AYD as NDC propagandists throwing dust in the eyes of the public.
“AYD is an assembly of NDC members trying to propagate the agenda of faceless financially heavyweight people to distract the good works of the MCE and the party. Seth Oduro Boadu’s developmental records are unprecedented and incomparable. We call on Nana [Akufo-Addo]to maintain him [Seth Oduro Boadu],” another resident who gave his name as Otoo said.
Some of the market women in the municipality who could not fathom the allegation of the youth group argued that Mr. Oduro Boadu will go in the history books as the best following his unprecedented development and good human relation.
“We, the market women know the good works of the MCE. Look at Asamankese, had it not been this MCE, the NPP could not have boasted of anything in the town. Almost all projects in the town were done by the NDC. And it is under the tenure of Seth Boadu that NPP can also boast of projects. He has given facelift to the town by spreading projects in every community. Our President should not make any mistake of even attempting not to reappoint him. We need him to save our party here. This so-called AYD is not a serious group.”
