The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says his second term will witness a massive investment in Ghanaian doctors and nurses to boost healthcare delivery in the country.
President Akufo-Addo in touting his achievements in the health sector during his last state of the nation address to Parliament on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, said his government in the last four years improved the country’s health sector tremendously.
He insisted that his administration has “resolved some long-standing problems in the health sector.”
According to him, the government is also “upgrading district hospitals where they exist and establishing new ones where they do not.”
“Some 95,000 health workers were recruited into the public health sector and ensured that each constituency now has a well-equipped functioning ambulance. COVID-19 has presented with an opportunity to resolve some long-standing problems in the health sector. We have taken steps to resolve the problem of infrastructure deficit in the health care system once and for all with the assumption of ‘Agenda 111’ and the start of the building of some hospitals around the country.”
“We are upgrading district hospitals where they exist and establishing new ones where they do not. We are also investing in the next generation of Ghanaian doctors and nurses and throughout the period I have kept the Ghanaian people informed with regular, so we all know what is going on.”
About Agenda 111
President Akufo-Addo said seven districts in the Upper East Region will benefit from the government’s Agenda 111 in the next 12 months.
The agenda will see 88 needy districts get district hospitals as part of government’s efforts to deliver quality health care by ensuring that every district has a benefiting hospital to cater for the health needs of the people.
President Akufo-Addo disclosed this in Bolgatanga when he addressed the Upper East Regional House of chiefs during the electioneering season.
He noted Nduri, Bulisa South, Kassena Nanakena West, Tempane, Nabdam, Pusiga and Bolgatanga East as the districts set to get new hospitals.
“The hospitals will have a 100-bed capacity fully equipped with appropriate accommodation for medical personnel,” he said.
