The long-held perception that tying/binding your midsection during the postpartum season makes the tummy flat was the subject of discussion during the season 9, episode 4 of Vodafone Healthline Series.
A General Health Practitioner, KwekumaYalley indicated that tying the tummy only keeps it flat as far as the postpartum belt is on.
“When you wear the postpartum belt, and you wear the fitting belt, your tummy is flat. Instantaneously it looks flat but does it ultimately make your tummy flat? I do not think so.”
Senior Physician and Cardiologist, Dr. Aba Folson, however, disagreed with Kwekuma’s position.
“There is no real scientific evidence to show that it does that but when you tie your tummy after delivery, it helps to maintain the tone of the muscles.
“It helps to burn fat and it pushes the internal organs inwards. When you do that for a while the muscles get toned and not likely to be lax.”
The next section of the show put the spotlight on a physically challenged young girl who got financial assistance from Vodafone Healthline to undergo surgery.
Dr. Ama Ghunney was also on the show to discuss some conditions that could threaten a pregnancy.
Such diseases according to her include high Blood Pressure and Hemorrhage.
The show ended with a fitness life coach, Maabena who stressed the need for exercises to be conducted during postpartum season.
She demonstrated some useful exercises that can be undertaken during this season.
