Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has received his first COVID-19 vaccine.
He took it with his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, paramount chiefs from the Asante Kingdom and the administrative staff of the Manhyia Palace today, Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
The Paramount Chief of Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, and the Queen-mother of Asante-Mampong Traditional area, Nana Agyakoma Difie II also took their jab after Otumfuo and his wife.
The Ashanti Region has taken delivery of 150,000 COVID-19 vaccines as health officials have begun vaccination rollout in 16 districts.
The queen-mother for the Mampong traditional area says the vaccination process was smooth.
She urged the public to accept the vaccines and pledged to use her influence to sensitize communities within her area.
“This vaccine is like meningitis and Polio vaccines that we all take. It is the same. You hardly feel any pain. I want to urge every Ghanaian to take the opportunity for this vaccine and get vaccinated. I believe COVID-19 has come to stay, so we are better off to have a shot in protecting ourselves against it.”
Earlier today, former President, John Dramani Mahama also took his jab with his wife, Mrs. Lordina Mahama.
Mr. Mahama took his vaccine at the Police Hospital.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor also took the vaccine at his home in Peduase.
On Monday, March 1, 2021, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the first and second ladies took their vaccines.
President Akufo-Addo and the first lady took theirs at the 37 Military Hospital while Dr. Bawumia and the second lady also took theirs at the Police Hospital.
President Akufo-Addo before taking his jab said, “I decided to take it [the vaccine] publicly to clear all doubts and urge everyone to also accept the vaccine.”
In Ghana, high-profile personalities are taking it publicly to clear all misconceptions and conspiracy theories against the vaccine.
