The Bono East Police has dispelled rumours insinuating that the murder of a high profile Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ali Ahmed Maikano Kalamu, was politically motivated.
According to the Bono East Police Command, there is no evidence that corroborates that narrative.
DCOP Asumadu Okyere-Darko, Bono East Regional Police Commander in a Citi News interview said; “at this length, the police has no evidence to suggest that, the murder was politically motivated. We are treating it as an ordinary murder case that has nothing to do with politics”.
Skeikh Maikano was killed in a suspected armed robbery attack in the early hours of Wednesday.
He was the son of the late Ghanaian Tijaniyya Cleric, Ahmed Maikano Jallo of Prang.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the circumstance leading to his demise was suspicious and worrying whilst feeding into “the general state of insecurity in the country”.
To this end, the party has called for an investigation into the unfortunate incident.
But the police in Bono East have assured of concluding investigations into the matter.
“The police will want to tell the public that we are doing everything within our power to make sure that the stretch of the road is safe. At the moment we have increased our patrol and number of snap checkpoint there and doing escort of vehicles. We believe that with these measures in place, we can reduce robberies on that stretch to the barest minimum”, DCOP Asumadu Okyere-Darko added.
