Dixcove land dispute: Paramount Chief condemns Hima Dekyi

The Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyemang who suffered a humiliating kidnapping and beating in July 2019 at the hands of some unknown agents from the Upper Dixcove Paramountcy has blamed Nana Hima Dekyi for disrupting the peace in the area.

Nana Agyemang who was speaking in Takoradi for the first time after his attack and also reacting to a press conference by the Upper Dixcove Paramount Chief following a recent attack on the latter’s relations condemned what he called barbaric use of macho men to intimidate residents of Dixcove to settle the ensuing land dispute between the Lower and Upper Dixcove paramountcies.

“I strongly condemn this barbaric violence of using macho men to intimidate and harm other people by certain leaders to force their will on our beloved Dixcove community lately. Even if there had been a conflict between myself as Omanhene of Lower Dixcove and Nana Hima Dekyi Omanhene of Upper Dixcove, this should be brought to Otumfuo Baidoo Bonso, who is the king of Ahanta Kingdom, and other traditional leadership institutions in this region,” he said.

Nana Agyemang however cited Nana Hima Dekyi for hypocritical stands on the two separate attacks.

“On 22nd July 2019, some macho men attacked and damaged my palace, kidnapped me and some chiefs from Lower Dixcove from our homes, tortured and inflicted serious and life-threatening bodily harm on us, publicly ridiculed and locked us right in the palace of Nana Hima Dekyi XIV.”

The Paramount of Lower Dixcove, Akwasi Agyeman also denied claims by the Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove, Nana Hima Dekyi that he is the rightful overseer of the disputed lands.

“The matter concerning Turom is currently in the hands of the Judicial Committee of Western Region House of Chiefs. As a leader, Nana Hima Dekyi XIV is therefore being reminded to accept the rule of law, show leadership and wait for the house to settle the matter amicably. He should stop intimidating and threatening people with macho men. What we need is for all interested stakeholders to work towards bringing a lasting peace for  which all citizens, chiefs and people of Dixcove, the chiefs and the people of Ahantaland, the chiefs and the people of Western Region and the good people of Ghana expect.”

He further claimed that the Dixcove lands belong to him, and he carelessly gave a whopping thirty-nine out of the 48 stools/communities and selflessly commanding only nine of his own stool lands.

“Well done for your generosity, selfless Chief! He has indeed forgotten that the area of jurisdiction of a Paramount chief depended on the strength and the conquest in the days of old“, he said.
