The Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency of the New Patriotic Party has denied claims that the Gwira Traditional Council have expressed their support for Eric Ogbamey Selby to become the new Chief Executive for the Nzema East Municipal Assembly.
In a statement issued by the NPP branch in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency and signed by the Deputy Secretary, James Kainyah, in response to an earlier publication, the party insisted that the said letter believed to support Eric Ogbamey Selby was never tabled before the Gwira Traditional Council.
“It is alleged that Awulae Angama Tuagyan II became upset with the development and decided to go for another candidate only for Ogbamey to publish the letter that the Gwira traditional council had rescinded its position on.”
“Again, our checks have revealed that, majority of the Gwira Chiefs are not aware of any such a council meeting to endorse any Gwira candidate,” the statement added.
The constituency also denied claims by the earlier publication that the Gwira area of the constituency heavily support the NPP hence deserves to have the MCE position coming from there.
“Much as we respect the right of the traditional council to support any candidate of their choice, we would also like the general public to know that the reasons stated in their petition for which they are asking the president to appoint Ogbamey Selby are total falsehoods.”
In the said publication, the traditional council claims the Gwira area lacks good roads, potable water, educational and health infrastructure.
“These, we disagree with the Chief. It is instructive to note that the Gwira enclave has been loyal and consistently voted for the NDC since 1992. If they therefore cannot boast of development, then it clearly shows how insensitive and unappreciative the NDC government has been to the plight of the people of Gwira.”
While questioning the loyalty of Eric Ogbamey Selby to the NPP, the NPP leadership in the Evalue-Gwira-Ajomoro constituency however called for Frank Okpenyen to be retained as the MCE for Nzema East.
“Frank Okpenyen undoubtedly has the development of Gwira at heart, therefore any tribal agenda against him must be rejected and treated with the contempt it deserves. The entire Evalue Ajomoro NPP is fully behind Hon. Frank Okpenyen.”
