ECG staff lay down tools in protest against Managing Director

The staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s Accra East Branch have laid down their tools in protest against the Managing Director of the company.

The workers argue that the continuous stay of the Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Agyeman Budu will lead to the collapse of the company.

Speaking to Citi News, an affected customer said ECG staff refused to attend to him.

“I am here to seek clarity on some challenges I am having with my meter but when I arrived here I was told they are embarking on a demonstration. This will not help the customers.”

The workers in the past few weeks have been demanding the removal of the current Managing Director of the company over what they describe as “incompetence” on his part.

They also alleged that several petitions to Mr. Agyeman-Budu to involve its rank and file in revenue mobilization since 2020 have been ignored.

The workers claimed the MD’s continuous stay at post will collapse the electricity distribution company because to them, “he is grossly deficient when it comes to matters relating to administrative and corporate governance”.

They also accuse their MD of breaching procurement processes.
