The Ga West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Clement Wilkinson, says he is poised to bring sanity along the Amasaman-Pokuase stretch in order to ease traffic.
He has thus promised to do the right thing despite the many complaints from naysayers and critics.
Clement Wilkinson argues that individuals tarnishing his image for ensuring that no one sells on the corridors of the road must desist from such acts.
The MCE has been lambasted by traders in the area after the assembly embarked on an exercise to get rid of hawkers who sell their wares close to the Amasaman bus terminal, thus contributing to the heavy vehicular traffic on the road.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Wilkinson stated that he is not perturbed by the backlash following the decongestion exercise.
“As far as I am concerned, we need to do the work and the right thing. We don’t have to listen to [some] people because they do not know anything about development. I am the MCE for the area and I will be questioned if anything goes on wrong here.”
“So I am pleading with those individuals to stop their press conferences and make Accra work. I am doing the right thing. And if someone is bashing me for the right thing, then I’ll keep doing it,” he noted.
The Assembly served notice that hawkers on the Oduman road will be relocated within two weeks.
The activities of the hawkers on the road supposedly contribute to the traffic congestion on the Amasaman–Pokuase-Accra stretch.
The MCE said the traders will be relocated soon, while a contractor gets ready to work on the Oduman road.
“We are moving the hawkers by the roadside to prepare a place for them on the other side of the road. I am sure in two weeks time, we would have finished that. For Oduman, because of the bad nature of the road, I spoke with the contractor, and she is getting ready to move to that road. I have also spoken to the Director of Highways, and he said he is going to talk with the engineers to come and fix the potholes,” he said.
