Ketu South: Residents displaced by tidal waves yet to receive NADMO support

Some residents within the Ketu South municipality who were displaced by tidal waves over two weeks ago say they are yet to receive relief items from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

According to some opinion leaders in the town, though some benevolent persons and organisations have donated relief items to them, more needs to be done.

Speaking to Citi News, the Assemblyman for the Amutsinu Salakope electoral area, Sylvester Kumawu, stated that they have been paid visits by officers from the Works and Housing Ministry and a salt mining company.

“We staged a demonstration on March 31, 2021, and after that demonstration, some people from the Ministry of Works and Housing’s hydro department came to encourage the displaced victims, and they promised us that the second phase of the project will be completed soon. A day after, we had the salt company also coming in with a few items for the displaced victims as well.”

He lamented that because of the unfortunate incident, some of the affected residents have been compelled to sleep outside.

“We were hoping that we will get some help from NADMO, but we still have not received any help from the organisation and the district assembly hasn’t given us anything either. As I speak with you, the displaced victims of the tidal waves at Solakope and Amutsinu are still sleeping at the roadside and others are perching with friends and family.”

“We are once again pleading with the government to be magnanimous to these people and come to their aid as early as possible. The most important thing that they need is the extension of the sea defence project from where it ended –from parts of Agamedze to Adzina and possibly to Aflao,” he added.
