The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, together with the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and the Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Dappah have toured some river sites in the Central and Western Regions.
The three Ministers discovered the devastating effect of galamsey or illegal mining on river bodies in the two regions.
The tour comes days after a national stakeholder consultative dialogue on illegal mining was held in Accra.
The meeting traded on ideas aimed at ending the galamsey menace.
It brought together all stakeholders in the mining industry including government and small scale miners.
Samuel Abu Jinapor told journalists that the tour by the three ministers “forms part of our collaborative efforts to systematically root out illegal small scale mining and restore the sanctity of our rivers”.
