The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Samba has called for calm and restraint within the party.
It follows rising tension within the party with regard to the NPP’s flagbearer position in the next election in 2024.
In a release by the office of the regional chairman, it directed all party members to cease media engagements in that respect.
“Henceforth, all party people are to respect the directive to suspend all activities related to the conduct of presidential primaries until such a time that the green light is given for people to do so. All media engagements related to the above should cease forthwith. Failure to adhere to the above will attract disciplinary measures,” the statement directed.
There is unrest within the NPP in the region regarding comments allegedly made by the Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on the flagbearer position.
The Majority leader is reported to have commented that a non-Akan candidate should be selected to defeat the notion that the NPP is an Akan party.
