The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sawla-Kalba constituency in the Savannah Region has raised concerns over insecurity in his constituency.
Mr. Andrew Dari Chiwitey says the heightened levels of armed robbery in the constituency is making residents live in fear.
There has been a surge of robbery attacks in the area leading to deaths in some cases.
Mr. Chiwitey in a Citi News interview said a petition he wrote to the Ministry for Interior to support the police in the constituency with vehicles to improve patrols and visibility is yet to receive a favourable response.
“It is worrying, I wrote to the Minister of Interior to support the police here with vehicles to improve patrols and visibility, but there are no results yet so am still pushing.”
He said the police command in the district told him they have no vehicles to respond to distress calls and that is one of the reasons robbers operate in the area with bravado.
“I spoke to the police commander, and he told me they don’t have a vehicle, so sometimes they get the calls that robbery is going on somewhere, but they are not able to respond on time.”
Mr. Chiwitey said the development is not only affecting his constituents but also those of upper west since they regularly use the Wa-Techiman highway which passes through the Sawla-Kalba constituency.
Mr. Chiwitey, therefore, wants the Minister of Interior to take a personal interest in the development and find a lasting solution to it.
The MP for Bole-Bamboi last week made a similar call on the IGP while addressing a durbar at the Gonjaland Youth Association congress in Bole where the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was in attendance.
