The Eastern Regional Police Command has begun investigations into a robbery incident that occurred on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Begoro in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
Some armed men on Monday robbed 15 passengers onboard an Accra-bound Metro Mass Transit bus.
The four armed men allegedly carried out the robbery near the Koradaso Police Snap Check Point and allegedly claimed over GHS36,000 cash and 9 mobile phones from their victims before subjecting them to severe beatings.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Francis Gormado, who confirmed the robbery to Citi News, said statements have been taken from the three police officers who failed to be at post as of the time of the attack.
“There was a robbery at Begoro, and it happened at a police checkpoint where police personnel were supposed to be on duty to avert such an incident but unfortunately none of them was on duty at the time of the alleged robbery. As we speak the Command has taken steps to investigate details of the incident”, he said.
He added that, “statements have been taken from the three policemen who were detailed to be stationed at the said barrier but were not at post during the robbery.”
