The Sunyani Central Rotary has handed over a 4-unit classroom block with an office to the Yawhima SDA Primary School in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.
The 4-unit classroom block cost $59,696. The club has also handed over a 10-unit micro flush toilet to the school.
Computers and audio-visual materials were also donated to enhance teaching and learning.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, President of the Sunyani Central Rotary Club, Patricia Kwartemaa Effah, commended all who donated towards the construction of the facility especially their foreign partners in the USA.
Ms. Patricia Kwartemaa Effah noted that the club decided to put up the new block because the old one was in a dilapidated state and not conducive for teaching and learning especially for children at that age.
Ms. Effah noted that the new structure would go a long way to enhance teaching and learning at the Kindergarten department at the Yawhima SDA Primary School.
She encouraged them to take good care of the facility so that it lasts to serve the intended purpose.
“I would like to urge the authorities in this school to ensure that the structure is taken care of. Maintenance is a major problem in Ghana, but I believe this structure would be maintained to achieve the intended purpose.”
The Sunyani East Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mrs. Theresa Kyere Boakye commended Rotary Club Sunyani Central for the kind gesture.
She said the structure would enhance teaching and learning and promised to ensure that is well maintained.
The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu-Banahene, appealed to old students of the school to also come on board to support the school.
She further called on teachers and parents to be good role models for the children as that would go a long way to minimize social vices in society.
The Chief of Yawhima, Nana Ansu Ababio II, was grateful to the club for the infrastructure, and expressed the hope that it would give the children a solid foundation.
