A peace ambassador at the Office of the National Chief Imam, Clemence Gyato is urging the government to urgently take steps in ridding the streets of children.
According to him, the increasing rate of streetism could be attributed to the recent hike in robbery attacks.
Speaking at the Wilmar Africa Father’s Day Awards Night and Dinner, Mr Gyato stated that it is important to look for ways to take care of the children on the streets to prevent them from committing crime.
“The surge will not come down anytime soon. We keep going high. To the IGP and the police, please we must help to decongest the streets. The young ones keep getting hardened, and so they will be recruited in the future to go and cause atrocities. It’s tough out there. The guy sleeps by the gutter, mosquitoes bite him, he doesn’t eat, he has nobody to call a father, he has no mother. If he is asked, the mother is not there to play a mother role or father there to play a role, and he gets hardened every day, he becomes so tough.”
“The little encouragement or appreciation in that child’s life will lead him to do the worse in life, and that is what we see as a surge in today’s crime rate. It has nothing to do with galamsey and the earlier we all turn our lights to the streets, the better,” he added

Two persons –a police officer and a trader—lost their lives in the robbery attack at Jamestown while an unspecified amount of money was stolen by the robbers.
With the incident that occurred in the Central Region, the bullion van crew managed to escape the attack unhurt.
There have been other cases of robberies and killings reported in other parts of the country.
Some persons have suggested that the bullion van attacks and other daylight robberies recorded in the country in recent times show a failure on the part of the country’s security agencies.
