The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alex Afenyo-Markin, has donated GHS5,000 to the University of Education Winneba branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in fulfilment of a request placed before him by leadership to help an ailing member undergo surgery.
The leadership of TESCON-UEW paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Majority Leader at his office in Parliament on Friday, August 6, 2021, to discuss issues of concern to TESCON-UEW.
Key amongst the issues discussed was an appeal for financial support to aid one Mr. Edmund Addai, a Political Science level 300 student who was diagnosed with Peptic Ulcer and Hepatomegaly at the St. Martin De Porres Hospital to undergo surgery.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin upon hearing the news handed to the leadership of the association an amount of GHS5,000 as his contribution towards rescuing the life of the member of the association.
On 8th August 2021, the President of the Association, Mr. Ebenezer Opoku Boahen, popularly known as political thinker, led a delegation of TESCON executives to the Asougyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region to visit the family of Mr. Edmund Addai and to hand over the cash to them.
Mr. Opoku Boahen in his brief speech, pleaded with other legislators to emulate the good works of Afenyo-Markin.
He further called on other benevolent organisations and individuals to come to the aid Mr. Edmund Addai.
The mother of Edmund, Madam Cecilia and the entire family were very pleased with the kind gesture and expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the MP for Effutu and the leadership of TESCON-UEW.
Ending her speech, she stated that, her expectations weren’t as high as she had envisaged.
She said a prayer for Afenyo-Markin and persons who contributed in diverse ways in their bid to save the life of her son.
