Project Management Awards Ghana has charged the government to conduct proper feasibility studies before embarking on capital-intensive projects for the country.
According to the group, the feasibility study process will afford the government the opportunity to arrive at a decision to embark on projects that will significantly benefit the citizenry.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Chairman of the awards board, Rev Moses Tetteh said feasibility studies unravel the cost of the project.
“We need to know if a particular project has superiority over another one in terms of its benefits to society in terms of project standards. If we want to build a national cathedral, has a feasibility study being done? How was that decision arrived at? Suppose you had money in your pocket, will you build a clinic or a cathedral. Feasibility studies must be done on all these, to estimate how much the project will cost”.
He also called for an independent body to investigate the standard of projects.
“A chunk of the country’s revenue is spent on projects. It is crucial for the state to have an independent body to investigate standards of projects embarked on in Ghana”.
Rev. Tetteh mentioned his outfit’s plan to hold an award ceremony in the coming days.
“Over the next months, we plan to advertise and receive project proposals that we can evaluate using some principles and determine if they qualify for awards. We then plan to have an awards ceremony at the end of the year, during which deserving projects will be selected and awarded”.
