Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his gratitude to the people of the Volta Region for what he describes as “overwhelming support” for him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2020 polls.
According to him, the region has always shown love and support to the NDC.
Mr. Mahama was speaking during a tour in Keta on Thursday, August 5, 2021, when he made the remarks.
Mr. Mahama urged the people not to be discouraged by the results of the 2020 polls.
“I want to take the opportunity to thank you, the people of the Volta Region, and the traditional rulers for the strong support you showed me during the 2020 elections.”
“You didn’t disappoint me at all, and I must thank you for that support. But I also want to urge you not to be disappointed by the outcome. They say he who fights and runs away or he who fights and loses lives to fight another day,” he said.
Mr. Mahama, then a sitting president, was defeated by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 general elections.
Mahama lost again to President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 polls.
He, however, challenged the results at the Supreme Court citing among others vote padding. But he was also unsuccessful, as the apex court affirmed the election of President Akufo-Addo.
Political analysts say John Mahama is most likely to contest for the flagbearership position of the NDC again in 2024.
