The Nkonsia M/A Junior High School, located within the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has been partially shut down after some classrooms were smeared with faecal matter.
Students and teachers on Monday, August 9, 2021, reported to the school and found faecal matter smeared on the walls and furniture in some classrooms.
As a result, teachers whose students occupy the affected classrooms abandoned class and refused to return for as long as the situation persists.
This has also led to students abandoning lessons.
According to the Assembly Member for the Nkonsia Electoral Area, Bessea Evans Amoako, Monday’s incident was not the first of its kind.
He told Citi News the assembly is now working to improve security in the school.
“We met the teachers and the PTA executives and the first one was to provide doors and lighting systems over there,” Mr. Amoako said.
“The parents are going to pay GHS15.00 each, and as a community, I am also going to support them with GHS500 to fix a metal gate.”
The Assembly Member also told Citi News that discussions are underway to persuade the teachers to return to school, as interventions are ongoing to address the recurring situation.
After meeting the teachers, he said it “was a positive response, so I am very sure [today] they will come to school.”
“I am not in support of what has transpired over there, but they should consider the plight of the students, especially those in form 3. They are preparing to write the BECE,” Mr. Amoako implored.
