The Volta Regional Health Directorate is assuring the public and, specifically, the inhabitants of the region of its readiness to vaccinate people in the area against COVID-19.
Residents in the Volta Region criticized the GHS over the unavailability of vaccines in the region at the time it was inoculating the people in the Greater Accra Region with the Johnson and Johnson vaccines, although the region has also been described as a hotspot.
Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Health Director in charge of Public Health, Dr. Senanu Djokoto assured that the service is working with all stakeholders to implement all available interventions to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“The region has received technical and financial support at all times, and this is evident in the five treatment centres we have established in the region. It is also benefiting from the construction of ICUs.”
He indicated that 26,000 people have so far been vaccinated in the region.
“So far we have vaccinated 26,000 people. 24,000 have been vaccinated with their first dose of the AstraZeneca while 2000 [persons in the region] have received the two shots.”
“We are going to receive enough to inoculate the 24,000 with their second shots within the week. Subsequently, we are going to receive enough to cater for everybody within two weeks. The Johnson and Johnson vaccines have also been allocated to the region.”
