The Wala community in Kasoa in the Central Region has presented to the Chiefs and People of Odukpong Ofaakor the new Wala Chief to lead the Wala people who settled in the community from the Upper West Region of the country.
As part of the traditions and customs of the chiefs and people of Odukpong Ofaakor who are the custodians of Kasoa and its surrounding communities, any chief that is installed on their land must pay homage to the Odukpong stool, hence the move to officially present the new Wala chief, Alhaji Hashim Abdul Wahab Isaaka to the Ofaakor stool.
Speaking to the Chief and People of the Wala community after the ceremony to officially outdoor him, Alhaji Hashim Addul Wahab Isaaka noted that they are bent on bringing the entire Wala community together as one people to fight for one goal.
He added that the Wala community in Kasoa numbers about 5,000, hence the need to bring them under one umbrella to help each other.
“I am happy to have been chosen to lead the Wala community in Kasoa because we have a huge number here, and it is about time that a leader is chosen to lead us. Now that I have been chosen, I will work with my subjects to ensure that our brothers who come from Upper West to Kasoa to engage in trading activities are supported to succeed.”
Alhaji Hashim Issaka indicated that the challenges facing some Wala youth who mostly come to Kasoa to engage in trading activities include their engagement in menial jobs in the markets for survival since they do not have any start-up capital, adding that he will ensure that issues of such nature are addressed.
The Mbrantehene of the Wala community, Adam Abdul Aziz, says there are plans to support the Wala youth who mostly come to Kasoa to engage in menial jobs for survival.
He added that plans are far advanced to establish a farm and a skill training center to employ and train more wala youth.
“Now that Alhaji Hashim is the Chief of Wala, together we will establish a skills training center to train and employ more Wala youth in various handy works. This will help the Wala youth not to engage in menial jobs for survival”.
He added that a huge parcel of land will be acquired to also engage most of the youth in farming activities for survival.
