The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Guinness Ghana, and ECOM Ghana emerged as big winners at the maiden edition of the National Business Honours held in Accra on Friday, September 3, 2021.
The prestigious award for the National Bank of the Year (Public Sector) went to ADB, while Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited took Beverage Company of the Year.
Addressing awardees, the CEO of Global Ovations Limited, organisers of the scheme, Gideon Raji, commended Ghanaian firms for persevering despite unexpected challenges they were confronted with as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on the theme: ‘AfCFTA, Potential Benefits and Impact in Rebuilding Africa’s Economic Resilience in the Wake of COVID-19’, Mr. Raji noted that all recipients of the honours made remarkable sacrifices to achieve their business objectives during one of the most challenging periods in modern commerce.
He said excellence in business must be celebrated to motivate more individuals and organisations to contribute their efforts in boosting the national economy as Ghana explores opportunities in the wider continental market, which covers more than 1.2 billion people with a combined GDP of more than US$3.4 trillion.
A leading agro-industrial company, ECOM Ghana and Zoomlion, emerged as National Cocoa Trading Company of the Year and Waste Management Company of the Year respectively while the Managing Director of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Dr. John Kofi Mensah, received the award for the National Business Hero in Banking (Public Sector).
In recognition of its contribution to national development, the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) was adjudged National Government Agency of the Year and lauded for protecting the interests of Ghanaian shippers while being at the front line of Ghana’s maritime industry since its establishment in 1974.
Female CEOs Nancy Ampah of (Nationwide Medical Insurance), Lauren Hanson (Lauren Haute Couture), and Jane Ahadzie (JRA Cosmetics), took the top spots in their respective categories, Insurance Personality of the Year, Fashion Brand of the Year and Cosmetic Manufacturing CEO of the Year.
Other awardees in the 23 categories were: Twellium Ghana (Confectionery Product of the Year), Empire Domus (Real Estate Developer of the Year ‘Luxury’), and RwandAir (International Airline Company of the Year).
