The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project has announced a fundraising strategy aimed at ensuring the completion of the National Cathedral by the targeted March 2024 deadline.
Facilities such as a Biblical Museum and a specialized library stocked with literature on African Christianity is said to set the 250-million-US-Dollar establishment apart from any others on the African continent.
Per the strategy, the Board is seeking to get a million Ghanaians to donate GHS100 monthly towards the project for the next 3 years.
At an event to unveil the strategy, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral Project, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, urged all Ghanaians to contribute their quota for the establishment of the monument.
“It has been proposed that if the churches are able to mobilise at least one million Christians in the country who will faithfully commit themselves to contribute a minimum of GHS100 every month, from now till the next three years, the necessary funds will be generated for the project.”
“We urge Ghanaian churches and the Christian community to own the project.”
The project was proposed by the government in March 2017 as a physical embodiment of national unity, harmony, and spirituality.
The $200-million inter-denominational cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 people, as well as chapels and a baptistery.
Even before the National Cathedral project is completed, the government has announced a date for the commissioning.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta had said the Cathedral would be officially opened on March 6, 2024, upon completion.
He made this known while delivering the 2021 mid-year budget review in Parliament on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
