iValley Ghana in partnership with the Ghana Tech Lab, Soronko Academy and the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization has trained 20 female unemployed Senior High School and tertiary graduates in Mobile Application in the Savannah Region.

The cultural and social roles of women as mothers, homemakers and careers restrict their ability and opportunity to survive in technology.

This has contributed to having fewer females in the industry.

As such, the training was organized to help bridge the knowledge gap between females and males by giving the ladies basic tech skills in Mobile App Development to prepare them for more advanced skills.

This training dabbed the “National Female Pre-Tech Training Program” is aimed at training a total of 360 young females across the country.

iValley is an entrepreneurial development and innovation hub with a mission to promote technological innovations and sustainable entrepreneurial development.

The iValley Damongo hub manager, Nabeel Ranzel told Citi News they expect the trained ladies to use the digital skills to support and impact their communities.

“For us at iValley, it is not just about training these ladies, what next after that? It is also about giving them the opportunity to constantly learn and practice in order to become experts and build a career in tech.

“There are lots of opportunities for them to seize, they could become developers or UI and UX designers among others,” Mr. Nabeel said.

The 20 trained ladies are set to undergo a three months internship sponsored by iValley with organizations with the hope of building experience and gaining employment.

iValley has since held a one-day stakeholder’s consultative engagement to collate consensus on the potential and the role of web development technology in the local digital economy, and also how it propels youth employment in the Savannah Region community.

The meeting brought together people from the six key pillars, Human Capital, Support Infrastructure and Hubs, Accessible Market, Media and Culture, Accessible Finance and Policy, Government and Regulatory bodies.
