The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will from next week open a portal to allow for business ideas to be uploaded for support.
This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YEA, Justin Koduah Frimpong on the final day of the Job and Career Fair in Accra.
According to him, the intervention is aimed at creating a platform for job seekers who will are unable to secure jobs through the fair.
The program, which lasted two days in Accra, saw thousands of youth thronging the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to seek job opportunities with private companies.
Speaking to the media during the final day of the Job fair, CEO for the Youth Employment Agency, Justin Koduah Frimpong, disclosed a portal will be opened soon to allow for business ideas to be uploaded for support.
“We realised that the people we saw here are more than the vacancies available. Also, some of them do not meet the requirements, thus not all of them will make it through the process successfully. But we believe that there are young men and women with wonderful ideas.”
“To help these, we will open a portal from next week to receive business ideas from the youth. We will then screen them and reach out to the ones who catch our attention for support.”
Several unemployed youth on Thursday, September 9, 2021, massed up at the AICC for the YEA Job Fair in search of jobs from several employers.
The youth, numbering over 1,000, were seen standing in long queues, with many of them struggling to enter the building to secure jobs with companies.
I felt sad about the huge number of unemployed youth at the job fair – YEA Boss
Speaking on Eyewitness News after the first day of the Job and Career Fair, the YEA CEO indicated that, he was saddened by the turnout and is prepared to liaise with other stakeholders to put the agency on its toes as a means of dealing with Ghana’s unemployment situation going forward.
“At a point, I felt sad. To be honest, looking at the number of youth who were there and the level of desperation that set in, then I really realized that, as an agency and as a country, we need to do more, although it is understandable that we are a developing country and year after year, a number of the youth want to join the labour market, which is why we are having this challenge. ”
“But my team and I realized that it is good that we have started this job fair to partly deal with the issue of unemployment in this country. We will go back to the office to see how we can also scale up.”
