The first National Standardised Test for all basic four pupils has been hit by delays at a number of centres nationwide.
The initial advertised time for the test was on Friday at 9am for the first paper but was rescheduled to 11am.
The postponement of the papers was to allow for pupils who are travelling for the test to get enough time to settle for the paper.
The test will enable the Ghana Education Service (GES) to generate reports which will outline the challenges facing the education system across the country in some core subjects.
It is expected to test the literacy and numeracy skills of 561,000 pupils at 2,609 examination centres.
In the Ashanti Region, a visit by Citi News to some examination centres within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly shows that although many schools and the pupils are set for the exams, the pupils are yet to receive the question papers.
At T. I Ahmadiyya School B Exams Centre, for instance, the Supervisor for the centre said schools received the papers over 40 minutes after the scheduled time.
Some headteachers are concerned that the delays are agitating pupils scheduled to take the test.
Fatima Yakubu, the Headmistress for T. I. Ahmadiyya Primary A said, “I was here with my kids as early as 7:30am but when we got here, we were told the time has been changed to 11:00am.”
As at 11am, she complained that some pupils had not eaten while waiting for the examination.
She also appealed for a better organisation of the examination in the future.
“We are just pleading that they should sit up. We are doing our best to assist them, so they should also do their best to help us achieve whatever will help the country to grow.”
