Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has inaugurated a newly constructed Astroturf facility at Abelemkpe in Accra.
The newly constructed edifice is fitted with ultra-modern flood nights to enable the use of the facility in the evening.
The Astroturf at Abelemkpe is part of the numerous projects under the auspices of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) led by Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
“The completion of this project means a lot to me. In 2018, just when I was launching my political career, I made a promise that the next Gala competition that will be played on an Astroturf. Since then I committed myself to ensuring the fulfilment of this promise.” MP for the area, Lydia Seyram Alhassan said.
The inauguration was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive of Ayawaso West Wuogon Sandra Owusu-Ahinkra, CEO of CODA, lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib, H Tina Mensah Deputy Minister for Health.
Director of Sports at the University of Ghana advisor to the Sports Minister, Dr Bella Bello Bitugu was also at the inauguration.
Lydia Seyram Alhassan also admonished a newly constituted team responsible for the maintenance of the facility to ensure the turf is in pristine condition at all times.
She further added that the construction of the Astroturf is also a step in the right direction to ensure the development of footballing talents in the constituency.
Lydia Seyram Alhassan also thanked the Chiefs and Elders of Okponglo and Bawaleshie Traditional Council and the Chief of Alajo for their immense support in inaugurating this project.
She also extended her gratitude to the President, Nana Akufo Addo, Ministers, her fellow Colleague MPs, Director of Sports UG, Abelenkpe Astro Turf committee and other Dignitaries, Constituency Executives and Party faithfuls who graced the occasion.
