The Chamber of Construction Industry is pushing for the enactment of the Construction Industry Development Authority law in Ghana.
The Chamber says the law will bring sanity into the construction industry and regulate its activities.
Speaking at a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, Senior Policy Advisor at the Chamber, Kwaku Osei Asante said: “The key issue of Construction Industry Development Authority is that, the ancient tigers adopted the laws in order to grow. If we are able to get the Construction Industry Development Authority Law in place, we will be able to promote modern methods of construction whereby we will be able to sanitise, grow, develop, and regulate the construction industry in Ghana whereby we will be able to look at technology development in the construction industry and treat construction as a business, and finally develop our manpower resources.”
This is not the first time the Chamber is making a case for the passage of the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) Bill.
The Bill, when passed, will make professionals in the industry accountable and thereby get rid of substandard persons posing as contractors.
The Construction Industry Development Authority, among other things seeks to ensure that quality work is done by professionals.
CIDA will also monitor and evaluate the performance and efficiency of registered contractors.
The Bill was tabled before the 7th Parliament, but could not see the light of day.
