A United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC], has launched its Working Group II [WGII] report titled ‘Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation & Vulnerability.’
The report highlighted the dire impact of climate change if policymakers and governments fail to take proactive action to protect the earth.
Ghanaians continuously experience the impact of climate change such as torrential rainfall, irregular rainfall pattern, the outbreak of diseases, tidal waves, among others which affect lives and property.
This has caused hardship among some citizens with recent cases such as the tidal waves in the Volta Region where residents were rendered homeless.
The IPCC in August 2021, published reports by its Working Group I which examined the physical science underpinning past, present, and future climate change.
Climate Scientist, Dr. Nana Ama Browne Klutse in response to the first report called on the government to tackle climate change issues with the same energy it is currently fighting COVID-19 with.
The current report by IPCC’s Working Group II assessed the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, negative and positive consequences of climate change, and options for adapting to it.
